MEGI & WordPress

MEGI

MEGI Detail

When I started my employment in the library, I knew right away that they needed a content management system to reduce the burden on IT and ease internet publication and communication for librarians. I was interested in using WordPress as that system. We partnered with the Business Librarian to build the first library site running on WordPress. I’m proud to say that in a competition against 360 other sites, it won an award!

Our Business Library Website (MEGI), won the Best of Show Award in a [national] competition sponsored by ALA’s Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) with over 360 entries, MEGI’s was chosen as the one which best reflected expertise in public relations and marketing. A team of experts in librarianship, public relations and marketing judged the promotional materials. Winning entries were displayed, and Leticia Camacho and Andy Spackman, Business Librarians were recognized during the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference Swap and Shop program’s “Hot Ideas for Cool PR” in Anaheim, California. Our sincere thanks to Tom DeForest, designer and programmer.

Launch site

This was only the first of many WordPress sites we built for the library. After creating the Business Library’s custom site, we realized we would have to scale back the level of customization in order to meet with the demand. We opted to have a general theme with a customized banner for each site. This enabled various library departments to connect with their audience quickly and effectively.

WordPress Banners

One of my employees created the banner artwork in the above samples. I provided the art and design direction.
