So I just spoke with a co-worker in the hall. She is trying to wrap her brain around her new position as chair of the web committee in the library. We discussed the role of the committee and it’s members.

It was good timing. Just this weekend I had some thoughts concerning the future of the library site and how it needs to function. I don’t yet know how to do it but the library site needs to take advantage of the open access, open api concept that is beginning to deluge the web. For example, on my blog I can incorporate a feed from flickr, delicious, shelfari and others. I can take advantage of those fantastic utilities on their own site but then I can also share that data to another site – one that is more personal. I feel this is the model of the future. This is the model that the library needs to adopt as we head into the future.

Again, I don’t know how to do this yet. I don’t know what it looks like. The only way to find out is to try many things and see what works. At this point, we have nothing to lose.
